Phonics in Reception
As of October 2021 we introduced Little Wandle Letters and Sounds. This is a complete systematic synthetic phonics programme. We follow this programme to teach phonics and early reading skills in English across Reception and Key Stage 1. The children have a daily whole class phonics teaching session involving learning, practising and reviewing phonemes, and reading and writing words with increasing fluency.For further information about Little Wandle, and suggestions for how to support your child with phonics, please click here:

In order to further support language acquisition, and accurate sound production, we also use Cued Articulation by Jane Passey, which is a set of hand cues for teaching the individual sounds in a word. The hand movements are logical, each one representing a different sound and the cue gives clues as to how and where the sound is produced.
